The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce
RESOLUTION NO. 2007-0_9
OPPOSING INITIATIVE 960
WHEREAS, Initiative 960 will be on the ballot this November;
WHEREAS, Initiative 960 deals with four different provisions, including: public notice of tax related bills, a supermajority to raise taxes, advisory votes and fee increases; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce supports conservative fiscal policy and discourages the legislature from usurping I-601 spending limits; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce has the following concerns about Initiative 960:
-
The public notice of tax related bills will create new administrative requirements that will likely add staffing and financial needs to multiple state agencies and departments; and
-
The interested public can presently track and monitor tax and other legislation on-line; and
-
Legislative approval of every fee increase traditionally delegated to agencies and departments is a waste of the legislature’s time; and
-
We as requiring advisory votes for those taxes enacted without a voter referendum adds unnecessary election costs when the legislature would be required to approve those increases by a 2/3 vote; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce believes the Initiative 960 is overbroad and would negatively impact state and local governments;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Greater Marysville Tulalip Board of Directors opposes Initiative 960.
