The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce and Regional Visitor Center
Whether you enjoy meeting the public or working behind the scenes, we have a position that is right for you. Become a travel ambassador, receptionist, or administrative assistant. (Training will be provided.)
We currently have a dedicated and fun group of volunteers and are seeking additional help either as a STANDBY volunteer to fill in when others need time off, or as a regularly scheduled volunteer to work at the visitor center on a weekly basis. The time commitment can be minimal: as little as one four hour shift each week; or it can be more depending on your availability.
If you would enjoy working to promote Marysville Tulalip area businesses and provide assistance to those with questions about our businesses, this is the perfect place to start. You will suggest activities, give directions, distribute brochures and help travelers or new and potential residents to our area. EvCC Invites Business and Community
to Engagement Sessions
Everett Community College is asking community members to share their thoughts and ideas for the college's future priorities at a series of events beginning February 8.
The four events in February and March are part of the college's long-range strategic planning process. The college wants input from a cross-section of the Snohomish County community and
surrounding region, including those who are not already connected with the
college.
"As we focus on the future, it is critical that our planning is linked to the needs and priorities of our
local communities and constituents," EvCC President David Beyer said. "These community forums are one of several ways the college is reaching out to involve stakeholders in the strategic planning process."
EvCC has identified themes for each of the engagement events, which will include a structured process for discussion and feedback. Please RSVP by emailing strategicplanning@everettcc.edu to attend one or more of the sessions below.

USS Nimitz
Naval Station Everett will soon celebrate the arrival of
our newest homeported ship, the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68).
The Naval Station Everett Fleet Readiness (MWR) team will
be holding a USS NIMITZ Welcome Fair in the gym at The Commons.
The date and time of the USS NIMITZ Welcome Fair will be
released at a later date. If you are interested in helping to welcome the Sailors
and families of the USS NIMITZ please contact me before Friday February 10, 2012.

and shrubs at any of several restoration sites, including near Arlington,

contributing to improved stream and wetland wildlife habitat, while learning
about native plant identification, natural, and local history.

2/18 Qwuloolt Estuary Tree Planting, Marysville, WA
Help
us continue our efforts at this nationally-recognized estuarine restoration
site! Sound Salmon Solutions is pleased to host this tree planting event on our
Qwuloolt Marsh site, continuing work that kicked off during last year’s Days of
Caring with Snohomish County. Volunteers will learn about estuarine ecosystems,
especially the Qwuloolt Marsh’s significance as one of the last remaining
estuaries on the Snohomish River. Trees planted will help improve this
estuarine ecosystem for salmon, repopulate the site with native vegetation and
give shade.
Please
bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Wear warm clothes and dress for the
weather. Rainboots/sturdy shoes recommended.
2/25 Plant Potting Party!, Sound Salmon Solutions offices, Lake Stevens, WA
These
bare-root native plants need a place to live! We’ll be transferring bare-root
plants into their own pots, for use at future planting events. Come visit us at
our new Lake Stevens location and help us pot these plants! You’ll have a
beautiful view of Lake Stevens, and learn about native species, their preferred
growing conditions, and some tips on native plant horticulture.
Bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Wear
warm clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and dress for the weather. We will be
working outdoors.
3/17 Country Charm Park and Conservation Area Tree Planting, Arlington, WA

Jam wants to put trees back into the Stillaguamish watershed, and you can help!
Meet at the Country Charm Park and Conservation area in Arlington, WA to help
plant native trees and shrubs that will provide shade and nutrients for salmon.
Country Charm is always a popular place to work and play! You will be able to
view the site, see what progress we’ve made over the years, and then contribute
your own plants to that progress! We will be joined by representatives from the
City of Arlington, and other partners.

3/31 Whitehorse Creek Riparian Planting, Arlington, WA
Join
Sound Salmon Solutions, other volunteers and partners like the National Fish
and Wildlife Foundation to plant trees along a local coho stream—Whitehorse
Creek! You’ll get to scout for wildlife, like the beavers who have a dam here,
and help monitor native vegetation planted by SSS in 2009.

rich discussion with our community about our opportunities and challenges and
how we can best work together to prepare students for the future.”
The information and ideas gathered at the community events will lead to a
larger, two-day event in April and will be used to help develop the college’s
strategic plan for the next three to five years. The community events are:

PUD Customers’ Solar Energy
Output Hits One Megawatt
Everett, WA – Customers of Snohomish County Public Utility
District have hit an energy milestone: their combined solar energy production
now stands at one megawatt, double their solar energy output of two years ago.
More than 200 PUD customers now cover part of their electricity needs through
their own renewable energy, including rooftop solar units.
The bulk of the small-scale solar energy production comes
from customers participating in the PUD’s SolarTh
Express program, which offers financial incentives and technical assistance
for solar photovoltaic and solar hot water systems.
“We’ve seen very strong interest in solar from both
residential customers and businesses,” said PUD Energy Efficiency Program
Manager Jessica Mitchell. “We can help customers identify models so projects
pencil out and they can manage their energy future in a profitable manner.”
For the PUD, which serves a rapidly growing area,
customer-generated solar energy is a wise investment as it reduces the utility’s need to purchase new energy. Renewable energy projects, such as rooftop solar units, also help customers reduce their environmental impact and utility bills.
“We’ve liked using less energy from traditional sources by
getting our energy from the sun,” said Don Davis, a Solar Express participant on Camano Island. “The PUD makes the
financing and installation process easy.”

Incentives/Loans:
Residential customers can qualify for up to $2,500 for solar
photovoltaic systems and commercial customers can qualify for up to $10,000.
All customers with electric hot water systems can qualify for a $500 incentive
for solar hot water systems. Residential customers may instead opt for a 2.9% APR
loan up to $25,000 for photovoltaic panels and up to $14,000 for solar hot water systems. Customers also may qualify for additional federal tax credits and state production incentives.

one of the ways the PUD is promoting clean, locally-generated renewable
